Barbara and Michael Leisgen
Mimesis
1972-1973

“In a time without words the coercion to behave mimetically was enormous. Reading clouds, stars, the sun, mountains and dances is reading beyond language.”

“For their series Mimesis, the silhouette of Barbara Leisgen is shown in the middle of a picture relating to the landscape. She mimics the horizon line through the simple gestures of stretching her arms in different positions. The ephemeral and somehow naive gestures refers to the practice of having a subjective relationship to landscape”
